Crónica Inca

Felipe Guamán Poma de Ayala is considered the first historical chronicler of the Spanish conquest. Born into a noble family in Perú in 1535, he was a direct descendant of ruler Huaman-Chava-Ayauca Yarovilca-Huanuco. He was a fluent speaker of Quechua and the Aru dialects and probably learnt Spanish as a child or adolescent. He wrote and illustrated “Nueva Crónica y Buen Gobierno” of 1,189 pages and 400 drawings.  His original manuscript has been kept in the Royal Danish Library since 1660 though it only came into public view in 1908.
