Empanada Project Part 2

Our 8th Grade stuffed the empanadas and learnt how to make “el repulgue”, how to close them so that they don’t burst open in the baking process.  And voilà! Perfect empanadas for everyone! Congratulations 8th Graders.

E Imperio Inca

El territorio Inca se llamó Tahuantinsuyo que significa «las cuatro regiones o divisiones» entre los siglos XV y XVI. Abarcó 2 millones de kilómetros cuadrados entre el Océano Pacífico y la selva del Amazonas. Los Incas construyeron caminos, centros agrícolas y centros de producción de tejidos, asentamientos, fortalezas (pucarás) y numerosos santuarios en lo alto de las montañas. La capital del Imperio Inca fue Cuzco y su ciudad más visitada hoy es Machu Picchu.

The Empanada Project

Our Empanada project started off today. We harvested chard from our orchard to make some veggie empanadas besides beef ones. We chopped onions (cebolla), green onions (verdeo), garlic (ajo), and bell peppers (pimientos).  All the ingredients are sitting in our kitchen for the great day tomorrow….baking!

The House on Mango Street “The Walk”

We decided to go hunting for The House on Mango Street. To our surprised we found so many! We photographed all those houses that resembled the one in our story and used those pictures to write about the similarities between the description in the book and the ones we found in our neighborhood. It is always easier to write about something you can actually see and experience, isn’t it?
